How to Delete Old Files and Defrag your System

If you do not know what this is, or you have not done this for a while, you might be pleasantly surprised at how much better and faster your computer runs after this is done.
It is really very easy to do this and it should be done at least once a month to keep your system running smoothly.

  1. 1st. click on the "Start Button" on your task bar.
  2. Then go to "Programs", "Accessories", "System Tools".
  3. Now locate and click "Disc Cleanup".
  4. In the next window select the drive you wish to clean up and click "OK".
  5. Now a window will appear that has checked boxes with descriptions of the areas that can be cleaned up.
  6. After you have read and agreed to clean these files, click "OK"

This will execute and then we can go to the next phase of the cleanup.

If you use a desktop email client, such as, Outlook, now is the time to delete all the old emails and empty the deleted files folder. On most computers you can delete all the old emails in your deleted folder by going to the top of the window and click on "Edit" and select "Empty Deleted Items Folder".

Now we are ready to Defrag your hard drive.

NOTE: If you have not done this in a while it might take several hours. The best Idea is to do it and go to bed, or leave the office. Let your computer run and when you come back it will be finished.

  1. 1st. click on the "Start Button" on your task bar.
  2. Then go to "Programs", "Accessories", "System Tools".
  3. Now locate and click "Disc Defragmenter".
  4. In the next window select the drive you wish to defrag and click "OK".
